The Eye of the Cyclops
The Eye of the Cyclops (also called the Cyclops trail) is located about 4 km near Krraba in the village Skuterre in the Erzen river valley. It is a 20m wide and 120m deep hidden pearl of the Krraba Gorge. A small chasm rests at the bottom of the Krraba cliffs.
Briefly this legend is about a huge beast (almost all Albanian legends have a giant or a cyclops) that was haunted by locals after all the damages it had done, it died below the rocks. This area is known for a lake which was supposedly formed when the beast gave his spirit to the water, leaving it an emerald green and in the shape of a heart, with multiple deep scratches in the rock.
The natural landscape surrounding the lake is just as beautiful. A small distributary of the Erzen River flows into a small gorge creating a marvellous landscape through complex rock formations. It is one of the latest natural finds by natural explorers in Albania.
The Eye of the Cyclops has become a known destination for relaxing and exploration. Besides the stunning view, it’s a good place to swim during the hot summer days.
