The Pyramid
The Pyramid was inaugurated on October 14,1988, as the museum of the dictator Enver Hoxha (1908-1985). Its construction began in 1986 and ended in 1988 and it served as a museum for his heritage until 1991.
The structure was designed as eagle wings, the symbol of the nation itself, but visible as such only from above. From the point of view of the pedestrians it resembles a pyramid. Its triangular structure was projected by a group of architects and was led by E. Hoxha’s daughter and son-in-law. The name Pyramid was given during the “Students Movement” in December 1990, due to its architectonic shape.
After 1991, the Pyramid was transformed into an International Cultural Centre. Many conferences, exhibitions as well as national and international fairs were carried out here.
The Pyramid is a symbol of the transition period. At first, it served as the museum of a dictator and later on it turned into a space for free activities and now it has entered into the path of economic and social development. It has become the largest center for young people, mainly focused on digital education, information technology culture and in function of art, culture and professional courses or other youth spaces.
Today the Pyramid of Tirana has also turned into the largest technological centre of the region.
