House Studio Kadare
House Studio Kadare is a place where you can get an idea of Kadare's work. It is a place where you can encounter the writer’s work and recognize its infinite ramifications in the times, in literature, and in his readers. This scope includes both aspects of how the writer came to shape his work and how it was diffused, received, criticized and conveyed beyond its own culture, and how it continues to be ‘understood’. The apartment was, of course, the writer’s place of work (atelier), but now it will be the point of departure for Kadaré’s work as an agent of postwar culture. It will continue to open up a perspective on how literary thought takes shape, how it interacts with its audience(s), and how it changes as it moves through geography and time.
The real strength of the Kadare apartment lies in its significance as a place. Firstly, as a place of writing, in a distinct building whose architect is a friend of the writer, and within an urban topography that finds many reflections in the writer's stories (and his own experiences) as the place of survival of certain concepts of life to which Albanian houses hold the key, and finally as a place in the larger cultural and political geography of Europe.
The apartment where Kadare lived in 1974-1989, is located on the third floor of a palace in Dibra Street designed by the architect Maks Velo.
The main role of the museum dedicated to Kadare is education. It aims to attract a comprehensive target group and to present to locals and foreign visitors the value and extraordinary work he has achieved during his life.
The apartment is clearly divided between the studio area with original documents, objects, books and furniture, and the rest of the apartment where they are acquainted with the work of the writer and includes a reading angle and a SAL sale corner (souvenir, art & books ).
